Our Belted Galloways are ASH-free, grass-fed & finished beef. We began offering beef shares in 2017. In 2020, we certified our herd organic. We do not administer any antibiotics, steroids, or hormones to our cows. Alas, the cost of certification has made certification impossible for our small-scale farm, in 2024 we have opted out of organic certification but will continue to carefully & humanely raised our animals.
Beef from Belted Galloways is low in saturated fat and well-marbled, making for excellent lean, high quality meat. The breeds conversion of grass to muscle is also considered excellent, they're able to maintain good condition on pasture, and produce a high quality beef product on grass alone. Grass-fed beef is healthier than conventional beef because grass-fed beef contains less saturated fat, more nutrients, antioxidants, and healthy fatty acids. Grass-fed beef contains more heart healthy omega3 fatty acids & vitamins than conventional grain fed beef.
The Belted Galloway breed originated in the rugged hill country of southern Scotland, the breed is over 1000 years old. Our herd thrives here in Central Kentucky with lush bluegrass pastures, in addition to our cover-cropped fields which include rye, wheat, triticale, clover, vetch, soybeans & peas. They have helped us convert overgrown fields to pasture & are an important component of maintaining our soil health on the farm.
